The "Trumpet Night" is a great meeting of the stars of the scene. It is directed by star trumpeter Rüdiger Baldauf, who brings guests Joo Kraus, Menzel Mutzke and exceptional voice Max Mutzke to Baden-Baden. In addition to pieces that the guests will bring to the "Trumpet Night", Baldauf has rearranged his own compositions and written them especially for the guest soloists. This special concert is completed by the band, all of whom are top-class musicians, which alone is worth a visit!
Rüdiger Baldauf is one of the most sought-after and best-known trumpeters in Germany. He has toured with the Paul Kuhn Orchestra, Udo Jürgens, the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble, Shirley Bassey, Joe Zawinul, Maceo Parker and played productions with Ray Charles, Mel Lewis, Phil Woods, James Brown, T. Thielemanns, Dionne Warwick or Barbara Streisand, among others.
Max Mutzke is undoubtedly one of the best German pop and soul singers. With his powerful voice, he can effortlessly serve any genre. "Welt hinter Glas" from his last studio album "Max" was a pop radio hit. With the NDR Radiophilharmonie he revives the great tradition of American jazz orchestras with classics like "Me & Mrs. Jones" and with his band monoPunk things get pretty funky.
Joo Kraus is an important German jazz trumpeter and composer. He became known and famous through the hip-jazz project Tab Two. Today, music greats such as Jazzkantine, De-Phazz, Fury In The Slaughterhouse, Kinderzimmer Productions, Laith al Deen, Peter Herbolzheimer, Charlie Mariano and Tina Turner make use of his art.
Menzel Mutzke began playing the trumpet at the age of nine. He has played at various international jazz and pop festivals such as Jazz à Vienne, North Sea Jazz Festival , Montreux Jazz Festival, Deichbrand, Hurricane, Summerjam and many more. Since 2012 Menzel Mutzke, the brother of Max Mutzke, has been a regular member of the WDR and NDR Big Band and since 2016 of the Glenn Miller Orchestra under the direction of Wil Salden.
