art meets city

Sat 20. Jul - Sun 01. Sep 2024
Kurgarten in front of the Kurhaus
Open Air Gallery

The artist for the "kunst findet stadt 2024" art series has been announced: Erwin Wurm will be showing some of his sculptures in Baden-Baden. The art project "kunst findet stadt" has been presenting artists in public spaces since 2021. The works of art can be experienced freely accessible in the center of the city, in front of the Kurhaus Baden-Baden.

Austrian artist Erwin Wurm is known for his unusual depictions of everyday life: They not only question conventional viewing habits, but often also the associated and culturally conditioned world view of our time. By alienating the seemingly familiar in a caricature-like manner, Erwin Wurm enables a different, equally ironic and critical view of things. His love of banal everyday life and witty detail are an inspiration and part of his creative process. His works have already been shown in many of the world's major museums and can be found in the most important international art collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Tate Gallery in London and the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. In 2017, Wurm designed the Austrian pavilion as the official contribution to the 57th Venice Art Biennale. Erwin Wurm lives and works near Vienna.

"On the occasion of his 70th birthday in July 2024, kunst findet stadt in Baden-Baden is also celebrating one of the most renowned artists of our time this summer with a concentrated selection of works," emphasize the two curators Johann von Haehling and Florian Matzner.

Admission is free.
